Massage Therapy
My path in alternative types of healing began for my own personal use. (Healer heal thy self.) This soon expanded to family and friends as they saw the changes in my life. Over time it became clear to me that this was in fact to be my career… my life’s work.
I believe healing comes to us on many levels through many different approaches. Each client I work with has individual needs and will respond better to varying styles or techniques. I also believe each person has an innate ability and desire within to heal and I am merely a vessel or tool with which they can work.
A massage combined with Reiki promotes deep relaxation in which the body heals. A typical session will be geared toward stress reduction and relief of muscular discomfort and tension. If you’ve ever had a professional massage, you know that each practitioner works with an eclectic blend of the modalities they have studied. Below is a brief description of the styles I practice. This should give you a general idea of the benefits of therapeutic massage, as well as a glimpse of my typical appointment.
Swedish massage is aimed at overall well-being, relaxation, lymph drainage and increased circulation. This is a gentler form of massage using a medium to deep pressure, which is overall, very therapeutic
Orthopedic massage (medical massage) techniques will aid the healing of injuries as well as relieve soreness in chronically tight muscles. This is usually deeper work to increase range of motion, aimed at a specific muscle or group of muscles. Most commonly I use these techniques on the neck, shoulders and back... as this is where most people carry their stress.
Hot Stone massage is soothing and deeply relaxing to sore muscles. These stones are used for either the entire massage, or as a tool to allow for deeper work. I describe hot stones as feeling like a nice warm bath. I have found that most clients benefit from this incorporated into their appointment.
Reflexology uses pressure points on the feet to affect corresponding parts of the body. Anytime I work on the feet, I do some very basic reflexology blended into the massage.
Reiki is a gentle hands-on healing that works with our body’s energies to support good health. The word Reiki means universal life energy. I generally work with Reiki on all of my clients during a regular massage. However, I also do appointments for just Reiki. This is less invasive to those who might be ill or sensitive, and the client is always fully clothed.
Aromatherapy is the use of plants, herbs and resins in their concentrated forms called essential oils. It is used to aid healing through our sense of smell as well as directly on the body in a diluted form. During a regular massage I use a basic soothing aromatic blend. Please ask me for further information if you are interested in the ways aromatherapy can enhance your life.
Thank you... for taking the time to read this in such a busy world. Please call with any questions. I also have a number of colleagues who work in different areas of NJ and who work with different modalities than myself. Lastly, may light and healing be with you always... Sue
